Vinyl sheet flooring and most types of vinyl or similar floor products, such as Amtico flooring can be installed on underfloor heated floors but as with all floor coverings the manufacturers installation guidelines must be followed.
Vinyl
sheet floors, by there very nature do not allow moisture to penetrate
through them. It is most important therefore that before laying the
flooring that the floor is completely dry and free from all moisture.
If moisture is trapped below the surface it will eventually try to come
out, resulting in the lifting of the flooring.
The following are general guidelines from a manufacturer that are applicable
in most cases.
1.
The materials for the flooring should be stored on site 24 hours before
installation at a minimum temperature of 18 degrees C before laying.
2. To achieve best results the site conditions should be as described on BS 8203-this standard details the condition of the floor, the moisture content of the floor and room etc, temperatures for laying, method of laying etc, etc.
3. In Generally where underfloor heating is installed this should be
switched off from 48 hours prior to installation to 48 hours afterwards.
It should then be slowly brought back up to working temperature of a
maximum 27 degrees C.
4. Where direct sunlight, sometimes
in conjunction with underfloor heating, creates high surface temperatures
on the floor. A high temperature grade of approved adhesive should be
used.
If in any doubt use a high temperature grade adhesive.
In all cases the flooring manufacturers guidelines should be obtained and their technical guide with reference to installing over underfloor heating followed.
