THE IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM

STRUCTURAL COOLING BY EMBEDDED PIPEWORK IS A FIRST IN THE UK

Under construction and due for opening in 2002, the Imperial War Museum - North will bring together a remarkable collection of film, photographs, art, books, documents, sound recordings and exhibits. It will be stimulating, accessible and have wide appeal.

The new Museum will be about people's experience of war on our society from 1914 to the present day. You will be able to find out about the two World Wars and conflicts involving Commonwealth forces up to present day, including peacekeeping in Bosnia and East Timor. You can discover the stories of ordinary soldiers, civilians and refugees, politicians and generals.

The Architect, Daniel Libeskind, has created a stunning design reflecting the way the wars of the last century have fragmented the world. Three of these fragments, symbolising war on land, air and sea, are drawn together to create the building.

One of these fragments, the 'air shard' is 55.5 metres high and from the viewing platform visitors will be able to see for 20 miles.

The building is being built on the South Bank of the Manchester Ship Canal in Trafford, 1½ miles from the centre of Manchester.
Warmafloor's Structural Cooling System has already been installed in the on site structural concrete floor members to provide cooling. The system comprises Warmafloor PB Polybutylene pipework circuited to suit the bay constructions of the building, terminating at manifold below the floor to which chilled water is provided. Warmafloor designed and installed the system in conjunction with consultants and it represents the first building in the UK using this application.
