Tanaka Business School designed by Foster and Partners |
The
new London Tanaka Business School, at Kensington Campus of Imperial College,
benefits from state of the art underfloor heating and cooling that will
maintain comfort levels for students and staff at a fraction of the cost
of alternative, traditional systems. Warmafloor (GB) Ltd has designed
and installed the system which is used in the lower and ground floors
and within the six lecture theatres.

Each
heating and cooling grid is formed using 20mm Polybutylene underfloor
heating barrier pipe. The pipe is a five layer co- extrusion specially manufactured for the purpose and comes with a 50 year lifetime guarantee. Warmafloor has created a series of heating and cooling zones, allowing accurate control of temperatures according to building usage and time of the year. The
relative height of the ground floor atrium and of the lecture theatres
makes underfloor heating an ideal choice since heat is concentrated
at the "living level"rather than energy being wasted heating
the ceiling space. Tanaka Business School has been built with the generous donation from Dr. Gary Tanaka, an Imperial College alumnus. The Business school is one of the best in the UK. It contributes tp advanced teaching and research in the fields of management, technology and innovation, focusing upon issues of industrial performance and especially on the management of innovation and change. For Warmafloor the project is the latest in a number of educational sector developments for which they have gained specialist experience having completed over 400 schools, colleges and university projects. |
